MEMOSA PUDICA PLANT

IN
My previous article ‘Plants can ‘think’ and ‘remember’was published last year. This blog is its extention version…. Plants belong to another world. They prepare food for themselves in sunshine(photosynthesis) and feed animal world too. The Scientiest are asking, could they have a mind ? do they have memory and intelligence? can they percieve the environment the climate etc. Could they have a nervous system like the animals. During last 100 years research on plants is going on. Jagdish Chandra Bose Indian Botanist tried to show that plants had sensations but some kind of consiousness too, they responded to electromagnetic waves, electricity touch chloroform light and sound.

ROOT SEARCHING

In the year ninteen eighties, a murder mystery came to light… mass killing of Kundus(animal deer) in the Limpopo savannah forest. There was a severe drought, the country was devastated. Water and food was scarce . Animals were suffering. In such calamity trees of Acasia provided some hopes of life, with their leaves to the beautiful kundus (deers),they plucked small leaves from the branches and overcame death starvation.

When no.of kundus started feeding on them, all of sudden large no of kunduz started dropping dead. No predators had killed them no marks no diseases or parasites were found for their deaths. The cause of their death became a mystery. So Hutu van Hoven a distinguished conservation biologist and specialist in great African Herbivorous was summoned. He focussed on dead animals stomach contents. Tests showed that they died of Tanin a poisonous chemicasl. usually the plants produces tanin in small qty. to get rid of bugs and insects But large amt of tanin was produced by the acasia plants for their own survival from these animals.

CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

Tanin was found to slow down the fermenting process in the animals resulting in fatal consequences.. death in kundus. tanin was being produced in massive scale to kill animals. We know about Carnivorous plants how they attract the insects worms by producing sticky substance or odour or color. They feed on them. Is this not intelligence? The famous book “The Secret Life of Plant” by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird which became New York Times bestseller re-opened image of plants for people.

MEMOSA PUDICA

This was one of the most important conclusions of Charles Darwin’s latest works. In his book “The Power of Movements in Plants” published in 1880, he offered an idea that plants are reversed animals: with main sensory organs and “brain” underground on the bottom and sexual organs on the top: “… the tip of the root acts like the brain of one of the lower animals, the brain being seated within the anterior end of the body receiving impressions from the sense organs and directing the several movements.” The important point to note here is that plants have “sessile life style” meaning they are grounded in one place and can’t move. .

Over the recent years, a small but growing group of researchers from Austria, Germany, Italy, UK, Japan, South Africa and the USA, has developed a new scientific field of research: the neurobiology of plants.

IN THE MINDS OF PLANTS

Their discoveries question the traditional bouderies set between the animal and the vegetable kingdom: plants are capable to develop the cognitive process claimed by humans and animals.

SPACE EXPLORATION

Image

Human Mind is ever thinking of past present and future. A new chapter of evolution in the Space journey is being probed. Our imaginary travel to the different planet like Mars and Moon in our science fiction stories have proved  real life Mission.

MANGALYAAN

m

We are literally in the race of Star Trekking. Our Mars Orbitor Mission Mangalyan was launched successfully in Earths Orbit on 5th Nov 2013, by the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Its expected to enter Mars orbit around 24 sep. 2014

The mission is a “technology demonstrator” project aiming to develop the technologies required for design, planning, management, and operations of an interplanetary mission.

STARS AND GALAXIES

The luminous threat Earth had suffered from Asteroids before and further still.. From Natural calamiities and Manmade destruction are looming ahead A potential future habitable world for our species, exploration to Mars and Moon is taking place.

Should the humans survive the Nuclear threat etc& with the rate of exponential technical advancement it is predicted that we can colonize space till the end of this century. The number of artificial settelites zooming in space and an International Space station built will help in our colonisation in space mission.

TERRAFORMINGT

Planet Mars and our Natural satellite Moon seems the nearest celestial bodies where humans can colonize. By chemical engineeering (Terraforming), making their unhabitable envionment into habitable zone for humans. Its not an easy task. It might take yea

 PROXIMA CENTAURI

We can think of colonising celestial bodies of our ‘Solar system’ only. Outside our Solar System the nearest star to our Earth is Proxima Centauri which is 4.243 light years aways from Earth. It would takes years to travel to the stars, their distances are unimaginably far.

In the future at some point, our space exploration and colonising there will become a necessity for the survival of our species(future generation) and Planet Earth both.
